BOB LEVY started his songwriting career in New York City when he was twenty-two, co-writing with singer-songwriter Ronny Whyte who he recently collaborated on several new jazz tunes: "WHEN I'M WITH YOU", "IT'S TIME FOR LOVE", "CAN WE LOVE TONIGHT?" and "DON'T COME BACK TO ME!". Bob also collaborates with Alex Rybeck in New York. Their recent songs include: "HE REMEMBERS, SHE REMEMBERS", recorded by Joyce Breach was a 2014 MAC nominee for song of the year, "WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?" has been performed by Dane Vannatter in Boston and Jeremy Abram in NYC at The Duplex and their newest collaboration is "LOOKS LIKE THEY'RE IN LOVE". Bob's other recent collaboration was with New York based composer and bassist Jon Burr and vocalist Lynn Stein. A joint CD, "A LITTLE BIT MORE", was released in June 2011, including their first joint effort, "LONELY SERENADE" (as well as other songs from this CD) is getting airplay on some major New York City Jazz radio stations and other stations across the country. Bob has also co-wriiten many songs with Boston’s Harriet Goldberg, Krisanthi Pappas and Dennis Livingston. His collaboration "THIS TIME" with Australian born singer/songwriter Karen Jacobsen was a 2009 MAC Award nominee for Outstanding Song Of The Year. Bob’s collaboration with Dennis Livingston, son of Jerry Livingston, has produced a variety of songs such as a comic romp called "WHY HAVEN'T I HEARD FROM YOU?" (affectionately known as 'The Stalker Tango') recorded and performed by Phil Kassel as well as Patricia Fitzpatrick and Lisa Kantor. Other collaborations are “SOONER THAN SOMEDAY” (a bossa recorded and performed by Dane Vannatter), “MY NEVER ENDING DREAM” (a romantic ballad recorded by Jinny Sagorin) and "DANGEROUS WOMEN" (recorded by Will McMillan) that was performed in Australia at The 2013 Fringe Festival. Bob has also collaborated with Grammy nominated songwriter Boris Midney, Jerry Lundy and David Coons.
In 2011 Bob's jazz song "THAT'S WHAT YOU'LL GET FROM ME" recorded by Perry Danos, was featured on the hit HBO series "HUNG" which aired on November 27th. 2010 has brought Bob's song "PARIS WITHOUT YOU" to the silver screen, featured in the Touchstone film "YOU AGAIN" staring Betty White. Also in 2010 Bob's song "WHAT DO I DO NOW?" was featured on the new hit A&E TV series "THE GLADES". In 2009 Bob's jazz ballad, "WHY PRETEND?" (recorded by Perry Danos) was featured on TV on TNT's 'SAVING GRACE' and ABC Family’s ‘GREEK’. Also in 2009 Barbara Brussell, performed Bob’s “WE CAN BE ALONE” at her ’Born In The Bronx’ show, at The Metropolitan Room, in NYC and Wave Hill House - Riverdale, NY, Linda Kosut performed "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?" at The Iridium Jazz Club, NYC and Silo’s Jazz Club, Napa, CA, Francesca Amari premiered "I GAVE YOU MY LOVE" at ‘One Trick Pony’, Grand Rapids, Michigan and Lynda D'Amour performed "YOU WON’T BE BREAKING MY HEART" (co-written with Harriet Goldberg) at the BACA Showcase and Alice Frazier sang it at the Season Cabaret Series, St. James Place, Erie, PA. Bob's newest ballad, "IF YOUR HEART COULD FLY" was be debuted in 2009 by Lynda D'Amour in NYC at Don't Tell Mama. Frank Torren has performed "ME & MY BEST FRIEND", "PARIS WITHOUT YOU" and "LOOK AT WHAT LOVE’S DONE TO ME" at various clubs in NYC and debuted "WHEN I'M WITH YOU", co-written with Ronny Whyte. Another talented actor/singer, Joe Peck has performed “THIS TIME” at The Indigo Room in DC & “EVER SINCE WE MET” at the Arts Club of Washington. Bob's songs were also featured in 2009 at the Boston Association of Cabaret Artists (BACA) Special Cabaret Showcase at the Calderwood Pavilion, in Boston, MA with vocalists Dane Vannatter, Jan Peters, Lynda D'Amour, Phil Kassel & Tom LaMark on piano. Dane Vannatter has performed "I SHOULD GO HOME" , "OUT IN THE COLD" and "EVER SINCE WE MET". His jazz/blues song, "THAT'S WHAT YOU'LL GET FROM ME" (also recorded by Perry Danos) was nominated for a 2009 JPF Award in the Jazz Vocal category. JPF is an International Music Organization for inde songwriters. Songs from Bob’s Jazz CD’s have been featured on Buenos Aires, Argentina’s FM Jazz Radio, Ruiz 91.7, NPR's WVOF 88.5 FM as well as other Jazz stations in the US.
In 2008 Russ Lorenson performed two of Bob's jazz songs, "ASK ME IF I CARE" and "ALL I REALLY NEED IS YOU" in his show "STANDARD TIME" at The Rrazz Room at The Hotel Nikko, San Francisco, CA. and recorded them live at The Metropolitan Room in NYC and Gretchen Reinhagen premiered “I WANTED MORE” at "An Evening with NY Cabaret Artists at the deSeversky Center, Old Westbury, NY and again at Don’t Tell Mama’s, NYC. Bob’s songs and collaborations were performed at the NY Sheet Music Society as part of the New Songwriter series. Vocalists were Dane Vannatter, Laurie Krauz, Sue Matsuki and Karen Jacobsen. Sue Matsuki also performed "SOONER THAN SOMEDAY" at the TRU Faces Cabaret sponsored by Theater Resources Unlimited in New York City.
In 2007 "A Musical Celebration", a showcase of his songs was held at The Laurie Beechman Theater with vocalists: Barbara Brussell, Laurie Krauz, Marcus Goldhaber, Sue Matsuki, Dane Vannatter, Vincent Wolfe and Ronny Whyte with Tedd Firth as musical director. Bob's songs have received numerous honors in the Billboard Song competition and the VH1 Song of The Year competition. Bob is an ASCAP Plus Award Winner for 2005 through 2010 and ASCAP selected his song, "PARIS WITHOUT YOU" (recorded by Perry Danos) for their EMERGING JAZZ WRITERS radio broadcast series. Bob's CD collection, "Out In the Cold - New Jazz Standards" was released in 2006, "Me & My Best Friends" in 2008 and “Off His High Horse” in 2010. His Jazz and country songs are now being performed throughout the US, Canada, the UK, Italy, Greece and Japan.
Bob Levy is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) in New York, as well as the Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs (MAC) and The Boston Association of Cabaret Artists (BACA).
